Album Thoughts
Here is, what I think was, the second complete album of 2 Mello's I listened to. It set a precedent for excellent quality that I have yet to hear him not live up to.
Song Notes
The Rhythm
- Atmospheric and up in your ears. Then the percussion kicks in.
- Man, the rapping is sick!
Foot Traffic
- Rainy night, solitary in a busy place downtown.
Bump This
- The accordion coming in at the end is so… I dunno!
- It releases so much tension that you don’t even realize has built!
Got To Come Together
- It’s frantic, maddening. Then the monologue at the end does the opposite of “Bump This”, where… there is no tension release. It only increases the tension.
Skyline
- A damn fine bop.
Place of Worship
- Relaxes and smooths, then starts rebuilding energy and interest.
- The climax with the string plucks and the more chromaticism is so nice. Then, we just fade out…
General Thoughts
- The pacing of this album doesn’t feel quite so intentional towards the end. “Got to Come Together” has so much drama to it, and “Skyline”, I feel, doesn’t do anything with that energy.
