Album Thoughts
It's more nelward again!! I'm just going through albums one to five and we'll see how they progress!
Song Notes
Close Talker
- Immediately got a dramatic progression.
- It’s also more immediately pop-y. I don’t know how to properly define that, but… it’s there.
cosmic relief
- This is more what I expect out of nelward, lmao.
- The big sounds in the chorus are hitting nicely.
- OOOH, the harmonic vocals!!
- And then the screaming is so gooooood!
gumdrops
- God, some good bloopy sounds.
- The resolution of the chord progression at the end of the chorus hits just right.
- Also, I relate to this song when I miss my wife.
girl i’m so sorry bro
- The… fast pizzicato thing going? Makes me think of running my fingers along the teeth of a comb.
TUBE
- I love how weird this one is. The discordant chords are so wild, and the strange vocals really sell it. Then the synth strings come in and it lifts everything a bit…
- And the way the chords come together and resolve in the chorus.
- I think this is my favorite track on this one.
Nothing Funny
- This is a perfect logical followup, musically. The sounds that are chosen, the drums, the weird vocal delivery… When I first listened to this I didn’t realize it was two songs.
- I can’t get “my name is wayne and i am very afraid” out of my head
High School
- The chorus is so gooooooood.
- I love the bass in this song.
nice to meet ya! i’m digging a hole (feat. Adron)
- So grand and strange!
- It has an almost demented, grandiose feel like Willy Wonka if he were a music producer.
who’s gonna call ya name?
- The falsetto singing is really funny for some reason.
the sum of all our sirens
- It’s so pleasantly beachy!
- The switch to 3/4 time is really nicely done, it’s not until the end that I caught it and I had to go back and listen to the transition.
- Then the floaty chiptune waltz at the end is cool, especially with the turn to deep chimes.
i guess its really goodbye
- Kind of standard, a bit of an out of place sendoff for this album?
- It’s still well done, mind you.
General Thoughts
- The vocals take such interesting paths through the progressions!
- Part of what I like about nelward is how playful and free the music is to wander where it wants to go for a feelin gor vibe.
