Album Thoughts
This is the first nelward I'm taking proper notes on that I'm listening to fresh. I've listened to nelward one, nelard two, and nelward three before, so this will be interesting!
Song Notes
Sadboi
- Very kinetic starting out with some interestingly distorted guitar. The first verse has such an interesting musical progression.
- The chorus somehow fits with the verses, but I can’t identify how…
- It’s so frantic! Sitting on an ant pile, indeed!
THE RUNAROUND
- The interval between the guitar and keyboards is strange. A 7th? A 2nd separated by octaves? Interesting nonetheless.
- I always kind of love when musicians just have a bit where they go “Doo doodoo dooooo do doo!“
realife ft. hannahbolector
- Sooooo 80’s.
- I like the harshness of the chorus.
- The outro is really cool!
trippin on a hole in the sky
- Not a lot going on here, but the sound choices are definitely interesting!
- I think it’s avoiding the minor/major third to try and put it off, but I could be wrong.
u can be my lover
- Finding the key and sound here is hard, but fascinating!!
- OH, when it opens up that’s so good! Especially because it defines the key it’s in so much stronger!
- My favorite so far!
don’t fukk me up!
- Big and pop-y. Very cool!
- Not a lot of notes, just a solid one!
Twist
- Oooooookay, we’re here now. I didn’t realize I was missing something like this on this album! I guess that’s complimentary!
- The bubbles and chimes and strings… so nice…
buttercup
- Not a lot to say about this one!
General Thoughts
- These albums are doing a good job at getting me used to appreciating dissonance, but I wonder if that’s just because these are musically well constructed, because sometimes it only hits my ear wrong, and I still can’t get it.
- nelward really likes a long fadeout and atmospheric song endings. It’s a cool signature.
- I feel like the soundscapes have gotten less busy over time. I kind of miss it, though the music’s still real good.n
