Album Thoughts
Once again, outside my wheelhouse, though I've had some admiration of Sabrina Carpenter as a pop star for a bit.
Song Notes
Manchild
- Lmao why do these idiots suck?
- I really like the acoustic feel to this one.
Tears
- The opening piano fucks and is dripping with drama.
- Men suck so bad she is sarcastically horny for the bare minimum.
My Man on Willpower
- Super dreamy feel
Sugar Talking
- This song feels super reasonable in its complaints.
- Holy shit, what a cool sound in a guitar solo! The distorted twang is sour.
Nobody’s Son
- The bounce on the 2s and 4s is real nice. Saxxxxxxx.
Never Getting Laid
- Once again relaxed and drifty.
- A “forever of never getting laid” is so fun to say/sing.
- The slow wind down at the end is a good mood shift.
When Did You Get So Hot?
- DAMN, this song’s deep, round bass and the higher chimes and tones rule!!!
- This is easily my favorite on the album.
- It is very sour. Very much love the big round bass!
Go Go Juice
- Bluegrass fiddle solo into drinking chorus goes so hard.
House Tour
- Flexin’!
- The 80’s feel is strong here, and the innuendo is delightfully cheeky.
- Fantastic synth sounds all over this thing.
Goodbye
- The drama of the “Ahas” is choice.
- Getting light mariachi vibes, but then also some regency sounding strings at the end?? Super cool choice!
Such A Funny Way
- Abba vibes. Thematically and emotionally a great ending.
General Thoughts
- There’s definitely a theme of “We ask so little of men.”
- This is a fucking comedy album!
- I really enjoy her harmonic vocals, and I can definitely feel some Dolly Parton influence in her style, particularly when things get bluegrass-y or country.
- What an excellent breakup album.
- Sabrina Carpenter totally overshadows Taylor Swift musically. Swift feels so commercial, and Carpenter feels like she’s really putting on a performance.
- There are some really clever lyrics in here.
- Definitely some swings in attitude from song to song that feels in-tune with the turbulence of a breakup.
