Album Thoughts
I discovered these guys via the song Wenceslas. I find that song pretty inspirational, and I wanted to see what else they were about!
Song Notes
Ambrosius
- Big and heavy, things I love in some metal.
- I really enjoy the way it slows down at the end, coming to a grinding halt
Your Empire (feat. Oskar Logi)
- This feels almost more punk than metal, and it fuckin’ rocks.
- I LOVE the chord progressions here, it might be in contention for my favorite track on this thing.
Bulls of Bravik
- The mix on this track feels loose and messy, but I don’t dislike that here.
Antibeast
- It sounds like a beast stomping about. Maybe hunting such a beast?
Wenceslas
- THE song on the album for me.
- I love some good rebellious, fuck-you music.
- I want to use this as the foundation of a tabletop campaign at some point.
Kraken Wanker
- Do WHAT to a kraken??
- In all seriousness, I like the low-fi intro.
- From a big dramatic intro to something much more upbeat and fun - I wasn’t expecting that transition but it’s nice!
Stinth Thy Clep
- They have some really fun chord intervals that get played here! I love it!
Platypus Platoon
- OH, it’s so bright!
- The way it falls back into a dark, kind of ominous tone is really nice.
- The downtempo shift into the low blues-y riff is excellent - moody, surly, and really cool.
- Then we kick things into some good punchy chords and big drums!
- The relaxation towards the end builds so neatly into something bigger.
General Thoughts
- I like these guys a lot.
- I was apparently driving my wife crazy because from a far enough room, it sounded to her like a slightly clogged drain.
- They do some very good Big Music.
