Album Thoughts
Green Lung was among the first bands I found that filled this musical need.
“Stoner metal”, whatever you want to call it, but it’s what I never knew I always wanted out of Black Sabbath. The tone of the guitar, the themes, the size of the sound, and sweet blues riffs sprinkled in. It rules.
Songs
Lady Lucifer
- The bass and guitar in the chorus feel like they’re crawling and writhing.
Living Fossil
- The riff here feels strong in a way that’s hard to define.
Older Than the Hills
- The early syncopation on the drums in conjunction with the distorted guitar into the cleaner, more mellow guitar is so good.
When the Axe Comes Down
- Sounds like the rest of the album, but is that a problem when the album sounds really good??? NO.
General
- I already quite liked Green Lung before starting to listen to music deliberately again. They and Castle Rat give me exactly what I didn’t know I wanted Black Sabbath to be.
- Their sound is so B I G and E X P A N S I V E , and their riffs are always interesting.
- This is the blues-y metal that I talk about and yearn for.
