Album Thoughts
More of these guys? It's more likely than you'd think - it seems like there's always more of KGATLW
Song Notes
Rattlesnake
- Yeah, them’s some microtones.
- Despite the repetition, it’s… not boring.
- Driving music, I think.
Melting
- I love what the drums have going on here.
- The synth keyboard has such a warm, wild tone!!
- The detuned sound along with the jazzy chromaticism are so cool.
- Fading out the low end and making it kinda hi-fi is a nice effect.
Open Water
- OH, the way the chord opens up at 1:00 made me drop my jaw.
- The western-Mediterranean feel this track has such a cool, mysterious vibe.
Sleep Drifter
- The bridge here is really enjoyable - I don’t know what that percussive drum is, but it adds a lot of character.
Billabong Valley
- Yooo, these vocals fuck!!
- This is my favorite track of the album!!
- The brief climb to the major IVth here is so good!! Holy shit!!!
- Also, I just really love the tone of the guitar in this track.
- The semi-dissonant microtones in this one really feel like there’s some fucked up shit going on.
Anoxia
- A dramatic tonal shift, but I don’t know how I’d execute better off of Billabong Valley…
Doom City
- Big and heavy!!
Nuclear Fusion
- The crazy deep distorted bass voice is super cool, and then directly into a bassline with a basic kick-snare-hat beat?
- Damn, this would be a crazy instrumental.
Flying Microtonal Banana
- I don’t know what kinds of pipes that are being played, but they’re super cool. Are they just bagpipes?
- Apparently they are zurnas!
General Thoughts
- As little of KGATLW I’ve listened to, I really respect how willing they are to play with sounds. They’re really fascinating to listen to, and it’s refreshing to have them just doing what they feel is interesting.
- They do such interesting things with the guitar harmonies.
- For being as mono-chord as this album’s songs can be, it sure does keep things interesting.
- The double-voice of vocal and guitar makes for some real interesting melodies.
