Album Thoughts
Enema of the State is such a good title. It makes me think of the username I wish was shorter so I could use it, "E-Reptile-Dysfunction".
Song Notes
Aliens Exist
- A good look into Tom DeLonge’s brain.
What’s My Age Again?
- I never really listened to blink-182 intentionally, but I’m realizing just how much of them I’ve heard before. At least how much of their early stuff I’ve heard.
Dysentery Gary
- The guitar intro is definitely emblematic of their style, and while it’s not musically revolutionary, it’s definitely satisfying. Also, what a hilarious name for a song.
Adam’s Song
- Another one I already know. For some reason, probably the tempo and less exaggerated vocals, I never realized this one was blink-182, though, which feels dumb in hindsight.
All the Small Things
- Come on, there’s a reason this one is so well known. Well deserved classic status.
The Party Song
- A thing that I usually find a little grating is when a song is too fast for the vocalist to keep up with the tempo. I dunno, something about the messiness of it - I don’t mind when they’re on time, and I understand there being push-and-pull with musicality and clarity, but I guess this is just another spot where I lean towards musicality.
Wendy Clear
- I have no frame of reference, and I don’t have any familiarity with this song, but it might be my personal favorite on the album.
Anthem
- Strong start to this one!
General Thoughts
- Irreverence is the name of the game here.
- This is some good ol’ 90’s punk, which is very refreshing.
- Do I feel 19 again? Absolutely not. Does this make it easy to put myself in those shoes? Absolutely.
- I have not the slightest idea who has my favorite vocals in the band, to be honest. They all fit the sound exceptionally well.
