Album Thoughts
I know damn near nothing about Beck except that he's a damn wizard with a guitar.
Song Notes
You Know What I Mean
- I really like the syncopation of the drums here.
- The way the guitar kinda wanders and screams is delightful.
She’s a Woman
- Whoa, wasn’t expecting the talkbox!
- I don’t know why I didn’t expect jazz fusion out of him, but it’s almost got like… Latin beat behind it?
- I could see someone doing a cumbia to this.
Constipated Duck
- What a song title…
- Well, if it walks, quacks, and swims…
- Things loosen up a good bit partway through, though.
Air Blower
- The way the bass runs underneath the whole thing with that consistent riff gives a nice solid base for the rest of the music to go wild.
- Oh, the shift in the last third or so of the song is a delight!
Scatterbrain
- Calling it now, this is the album winner.
- The dark tone starting out, then the way it grows and rises and builds with that bit of organ in the background is incredible.
- This gets so much frantic energy at the end!
- The drop out to the guitar restarting things is very impactful.
Cause We’ve Ended as Lovers
- The shift to something this mellow works surprisingly well.
- Oh, the blues are strong in this one!!!
Thelonius
- I love how aggressive the bass sounds here.
- The sounds are so bloopy and fuzzy and warm and nice.
Freeway Jam
- This has such a chill joy to it.
Diamond Dust
- Ooooh, it’s so eerie!
General Thoughts
- Yeah, surprise, surprise, the man can play.
- Dang, I’m finding consistently just how much I like jazz fusion…
