I wanted to like this one.
I’ve heard a few people speak highly of Girl Talk, but if this is a representative sample, I think it’s just not for me. I’ll probably give one other album a shot, maybe actually look for the one that has the best reception, but this was tough.
Song Notes
- “Let’s Start This Party Right” - YOOOOOOOO, is that the opening synth to Live And Learn by Crush 40???? This is fucking SICK.
- “Want You Back” - This is chopped and screwed in a really interesting way!
- “What If” - This is where I have to admit that it’s getting hard to listen to.
General Thoughts
- Getting some jumpscares with how the beat is organized, volume blasts, some real harsh audio
- It can be super hard to follow, musically
- I actually went to check the CD I’d gotten from the library to see if it was scratched up real bad or something.
- This is a bit avant garde for me. It started so strong with “Let’s Start This Party Right” and then got so abstract it just… lost me.
- I can’t comment on any individual song, because I can’t pick out individual elements short of samples or particularly notably harsh sounds.
