ALERT

I do not speak Spanish even remotely enough to follow along with the lyrics, but music’s about more than words.

Song Notes

  • “BAILE INoLVIDABLE” - Love the samba, almost bossa nova feel to it. Wonderfully melancholic, and I love a good warm, brassy, fuzzy horn.
  • “WELTiTA” - The bass that starts this song out is so goooooooood
  • “LO QUE LE PASÓ A HAWAii” - Deeply mournful and beautiful. Once again, the silence speaks volumes. Vacationing to Hawaii is ethically and morally wrong, and I fear the same happening to Puerto Rico. I went there over a decade ago, and it was truly beautiful, and it was an experience that really broadened my horizons, but I’d need to do some serious research on how to do it ethically before I could ever bring myself to go back.
  • “LA MuDANZA” - What a strong finish. Hot damn.

General Thoughts

  • Damn if this music isn’t something to dance to. The bass hits are so tight and bouncy it’s impressive.
  • Bad Bunny’s use of silence or at least dropping the instruments out is chef’s kiss. It draws attention and drama wonderfully.
  • I can kinda dance to cumbia if I think about it and have an example, but I need to actually get that shit down because this forces me to move even a little bit.
  • This is one I want to write more on, but (especially in this day and age) [lyrics are not required to enjoy and understand music]. I’ve long felt this and this continues to justify my stance.
